MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: TANYA

We have many amazing people with interesting stories that walk into all our gyms! The member spotlight turns to Tanya a student at the CBD

For the last 8 months or so, the most regular person in my boxing and Muay Thai classes has been Tanya.

What makes this stand out to me is that when Tanya first tried my class I must confess to thinking I would never see her again, making the cardinal sin of judging a book by its cover. Initially I felt as though Tanya looked quiet uncomfortable with the whole experience, not really enjoying it at all, and yet week after week Tanya kept turning up. She kept developing her technique, improving her physical health, gaining more and more confidence and she is now one of the students I use to demonstrate techniques for the rest of the class – giving me and my assumptions the big middle finger. So I asked Tanya why she joined and why she continues to put up with me each week.

Two years ago Tanya’s mother passed away and this caused Tanya to reassess her lifestyle. She felt as though she wanted to better improve her physical and mental health. One of the things she decided to do was get way out of her comfort zone and take up boxing/Muay Thai. A friend had trained with us at Absolute MMA and recommended a ridiculously good looking tall dark handsome Kiwi coach (OK, I might be stretching the truth ever so slightly). Tanya now does 10-11 hours of exercise a week, building her physical and mental heath as planned.

Well done Tanya, keep doing you’re thing.
