Big weekend for our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition team with the IBJJF Pan Pacific 2018 running from Friday through to Sunday! It was great to see so many of our staff and members from all three of our gyms competing on the day, a huge thank you to all the friends and family who came down to support the Absolute MMA team! To everyone who competed, congratulations on continuing to challenge yourself and moving forward in your martial arts journey. We could not be prouder of all of you for working so hard, congratulations once again to all who competed and received medals!
Overall as a team we received second place once again in Gi, and third place in No Gi. Thank you to our whole team and everyone who trains BJJ at the club, this is a result of our whole team working together, irrespective of whether you competed or not. We’re lucky to have such a tight knit team that is super supportive of each other and we are very proud of the positive attitude you all take to the mats! Well done everyone!
On Saturday (27/10/2018), three members of our Mixed Martial Arts team, Coach Kevin Jousset, Ridz Wan and Josh Ber went to Adelaide to fight at Eternal MMA 38.
Ridz secured a win via unanimous decision in a tough three round war against opponent Jack Hayes. This was a close match, but a well deserved win, congratulations to Ridz on the result of all his hard work! Can’t wait to see you back in the cage again soon!
Coach Kevin Jousset pulled off yet another first round win via KO against opponent Marc Luty via slam at the 2.17 minute mark! This marks the THIRD first round KO Kevin has made for his last three fights. What a beast! If you are interested in learning from Kevin, be sure to attend his Takedowns for Gi BJJ classes at our Melbourne CBD location every Friday at 1pm.
Hard day in the office for Joshua Ber, who was up against opponent Ryan Cooper. Josh looked great in the first round, putting up a good display of his striking and shooting skills. Unfortunately, he got clipped in the second round, with the ref stepping in to stop the fight. Lots to take away from the fight and Josh will be back stronger for the experience! Good on you for getting in there Josh.
Up in New South Wales at the Coffs Harbour Invitational 3, Coach Mikael Yahaya of Absolute MMA St Kilda was ready to throw down! Mikael secured two wins via heel hook in the four man (sub only) tournament to take away the 65 kg championship belt. Congratulations Mikael!
Continuing the Absolute MMA St Kilda Coach trend for the weekend of wins via heelhooks, Coach Lachlan Giles represented the gym internationally in a super fight in China at Wu Lin Fang, Zhengzhou. Matched up against opponent Rida Haisam, Lachlan stepped into the match 20 kg lighter than his opponent. This match was the best of three five minute rounds (submission only), with Lachlan securing his win with heel hooks in rounds 1 and 2. What a weapon! Proud to have you on the team Lachlan, safe travels and we look forward to having you back in the gym soon.
