We have many amazing people with interesting stories that walk into all our gyms! This member spotlight turns to Alison Loft, a mother of two who started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu when her son did, just over a year ago. A natural athlete who pole dances and does CrossFit, Alison made the transition to BJJ comfortably, and picks up drills quickly. Alison is a big Harry Potter fan, loves a good glass of wine and is always super friendly to anyone who meets her! Read on to find out more about Alison.

Can you tell us about where you’re from and any interesting stories growing up? If you’re not originally from Melbourne, how’d you end up living in Melbourne, Australia?

I am originally from Sydney. I moved to Canberra about 100 years ago to train full time with the Australian Women’s Volleyball team at the AIS. There I met the father of my children as he was in the AUS men’s team. After the Sydney Olympics we relocated to Melbourne as I gained entry into RMIT to do my education degree. Melbourne is home ?

You don’t have to to remember everything every time!

“Since joining Absolute MMA Alison has become a big supporter of other ladies in the team. Especially our newest members. As her confidence grows with her Jiu-Jitsu it shows in her enjoying and interactions on and off the mat. I am immensely impressed with the work she has put in, testing her nerves and herself constantly.” – Apryl Eppinger

“I have only known Alison for a short while, but I feel like I’ve known her forever. She is an absolute gem of a person who is always full of energy. Her enthusiasm to improve her Jiu Jitsu is starting to pay dividends and I can’t wait to see her game rocket off.”- Kim Cousins

“I can always spot Alison out from a crowd with her bright red hair. She’s such a positive person and is always pushing her boundaries.”- Maria Zampogna

“Alison is really tough on the mat, but really friendly off the mat, she will be a great competitor.”- Sean Le Gourrierec

“Alison has a white belt in jiujitsu and a black belt in pole dancing. Don’t mess with her” – Lenie Vamvesos
