Another Great Weekend of Fights

Another big weekend of fights!

First up we had coach Sean Le Gourierec making his long awaited return to the cage at BRACE 39 in Canberra on UFC Fight Pass. It was an epic fight, with Sean’s top notch wrestling and BJJ winning him the first round and he was looking good in the second until his opponent pulled off a nifty escape from mount and managed to get a strong position to finish the fight with punches.

It obviously wasn’t the result that Sean was looking for but was still a very strong and promising return to competition. With the ring rust now shaken off and a few adjustments Sean is sure to come back from this loss strongly and get the results we know he is capable of!

Finally we had Josh Li fighting Muay Thai at Prestige Fight Series in Geelong. After two rounds the score cards would have been even and Josh finished strong, scoring a KO with a cross in the 3rd round!

A well earned win against a tough opponent, congratulations Josh!

Coach Talgat Ilyasov Qualifies for Rio Olympics!

Congratulations to coach Talgat Ilyasov, qualifying for the Olympic team in Rio!

Talgat first qualified for the Olympic team 12 years ago and was given a strong chance of taking home a medal but he unfortunately never got his shot as he suffered an injury in the lead up to the 2004 Athens Olympics that put him out of competition for 10 years.

Although he was told that he would not be able to compete again, Talgat has defied the odds and again earned his place! A simply amazing, inspirational story!

Congratulations to Connor and Shantelle too for all that you achieved during the lead up to Olympic selection but commiserations on unfortunately not making the team this year. As Talgat’s story shows though, you will get your chance if you persist! Thank you both for inspiring us all and leading the way!

Congratulations also to our very good friend and former coach Sahit Prizreni for also qualifying his THIRD Olympic Games!

Talgat Ilyasov, Connor Evans and Shantelle Thompson One Step Away from the Rio Olympics!

All the best to coaches Talgat Ilyasov and Connor Evans as well as Shantelle Thompson as they head over to Algiers, Algeria to compete for their spots on the 2016 Australian Olympic Wrestling Team for Rio!
It’s been a long qualification process for all of them and they are just one step away now!

Congratulations on your success thus far and good luck for one of the biggest competitions of your lives! Inspirational stuff!

Absolute Turns 5!

This past weekend we celebrated our 5th birthday with an internal competition and BBQ with hundreds of our amazing friends and family.

The Fight Day was really a fun, positive day and it came together almost effortlessly – a testament to the unity of friends, members, staff and coaches we have. Thank you to everyone for helping us celebrate in such a great way!

Everything we have managed to build and accomplish over the past 5 years is not down to any one individual, but rather all past and present staff, coaches and members working towards a common goal – to create a positive atmosphere and world-class facility where we can use martial arts as a tool for physical and personal development.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of Absolute MMA.
