Absolute Fight Team Getting Huge Results in Muay Thai, MMA, Boxing, Wrestling and BJJ!

A massive weekend for the Absolute Fight Team with our athletes competing in Muay Thai, MMA, Boxing, Wrestling and BJJ all over the East coast!

First up we had Josh Li and Albert ‘Timorese Assassin’ Xavier fighting at Rise Muaythai Series on Friday night.
Although he took the first round in his professional Muay Thai debut, Josh dropped the later rounds and lost the decision. Regardless of the result, Josh put on a fantastic showing against a more experienced opponent and will be back stronger!

Albert scored a beautiful 4th round TKO victory against a very tough opponent. It’s going to be a huge year for Albi with some major fights already booked and he is off to a flying start!

On Saturday we had coach Raphaël ‘The Zombie’ Berthet and David Lescai fighting at Hex Fight Series.
In a crowd-pleasing war, Dave was unfortunately was stopped with elbows but not before landing some of his own. Although he didn’t get the win, he still put on a great performance and will surely be back better, having learned from this experience.

Raphael continued his march up the lightweight rankings, scoring a beautiful second round TKO with a perfectly-timed superman punch into uppercut! A great start to the year for Raph, moving him to 4-0 in HEX!
Also at Hex, our good mate and frequent training partner Callan “The Rockstar” Potter scored yet another headkick KO – this is quickly become his trademark! Congratulations Cal!

Next up we had the Australian National Wrestling Championships in Canberra with coaches Connor Evans and Talgat Ilyasov stepping on the mats as well as Shantelle Thompson, Apryl Eppinger, Carissa Wilson and Uyen Ha all competing!

Conner, Talgat, Shantelle and Apryl all won their divisions (sadly Shantelle and Apryl without opponents) while Carissa and Uyen both took silver. Everyone moving that one step closer to Olympic qualification!
Next we had the Abu Dhabi Pro Trials and Sydney International Open on for the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team! These Abu Dhabi Pro Trials ranks among the most important comps in Australia with flights to Abu Dhabi for the World Pro on the line!

We were able to field an incredibly talented team for the comps and we came away with the results we knew they were capable of! With over twenty people competing, there are too many results to name individuals but among the truck load of medals, we won 5 trips to Abu Dhabi plus an additional one for winning the overall Team trophy! An incredible result considering we were coming from interstate! Well done especially to coaches Lachlan Giles and Craig Jones, as well as Nikki, Ben, Demi!

Finally we had Jaskirat Singh return to the boxing ring to take on a boxer with more than double his experience. Jaz put on a characteristic technical display but lost a decision based on aggression. Jaz is definitely impressing and showing continuing promise!

What an enormous weekend! Thank you to all the people behind the scenes and all the training partners who make these results possible!

Talgat Ilyasov joins the Absolute Coaching Team!

We are thrilled to announce that one of the best wrestlers in Australia, Talgat Ilyasov, has joined the Absolute MMA coaching team!

Starting this week, Talgat will be running the Thursday 7.30PM to 8.45PM wrestling classes in the CBD!

Talgat was selected for the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 and was given a strong chance of taking home Australia’s first medal in 68 years but a serious injury forced him to withdraw and step back from competition for several years.

Despite being told that he would never be able to compete again, Talgat is now back wrestling competitively and is making his way towards qualifying for the Rio Olympics in 2016! His comeback is already looking good as he won the Canada Cup in 2015!

Welcome Talgat to the team! All grapplers and mixed martial artists would be insane to miss these sessions with one of Australia’s best!
