Children’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Absolute’s Children’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes, for children aged 3 to 15-years old, helps build life skills for your child through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).
A grappling-centric art, the goal of BJJ is to take your opponent to the ground, control them positionally, and finish with a submission. With an emphasis on technique and leverage, BJJ is designed to allow a smaller person defeat a stronger foe with ease. Absolute’s Kid’s BJJ classes feature an appropriate level of contact for your child’s physical development and maturity so you can rest assured that they will learn safely.
Your child will develop discipline, respect, honour, leadership and self-confidence, and much more.
Our program ensures that your child is bully-proof and ready to face life’s challenges.

WHAT IS BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was the first martial art to dominate the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and it remains one of the most effective forms of self-defence and an essential component of modern mixed martial arts.
A grappling-centric art, the goal of BJJ is to take your opponent to the ground, control them positionally, and finish with a submission. With an emphasis on technique and leverage, BJJ is designed to allow a smaller person defeat a stronger foe with ease.
BJJ is often described as a game of “physical chess” due to it’s depth and technical nature. It’s an excellent sport to train your child’s physical skills as well as their mental attributes and problem solving abilities.
THE CLASSES
A typical class starts with some tumbling, rolling, break-falling (learning how to safely fall in a variety situations), activities and drills specific to BJJ that serve as a warm-up and skill reinforcement.
With everyone properly warmed up, the instructor will typically teach a technique — be it a position, submission, sweep, takedown or escape. As with everything else in our kid’s program, we ensure that the technique is both safe and age-appropriate. Under the close guidance of the instructor, students will then practice the technique with training partners.
After some further technical study and drills, we generally move on to some fun games that are either related to BJJ or otherwise teach valuable concepts or develop desirable skills.
