Huge congratulations to Hugh Boyd, earning two silver medals at the Kids World International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships in California on the weekend!
We can’t wait to see where Hugh goes from here. He has a massive future in the sport for sure!

We had BJJ athletes competing both home and abroad on the weekend with the 2016 National Australian Jiu Jitsu Championship in Melbourne and the ONE Championship Grappling Challenge in Macau!
Kim Cousins was the stand out athlete at the Nationals, winning double gold and coaches Livia Gluchowska and Craig Jones impressed overseas, winning second and third places (plus a fist full of cash!) respectively against some of the very best competitors in the world!

Absolute coach Lukaz “The Lycan” Catubig got the biggest win of his career on the weekend with a huge second round TKO win at BRACE live on UFC Fight Pass! Lukaz showed the heart and power we all know he is capable of to survive a tough start and then rally and come back with a huge TKO win. Can’t wait to see where Lukaz goes from here! With this win he certainly is in the title picture at Brace!

Monday, August 8 from 6.00PM to 9.00PM we are very excited to host 8-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion Robson Moura for a seminar at Absolute MMA Melbourne CBD! For more info about Robson, check out his page on BJJ Heroes.
The seminar is open to everyone – Absolute member or not – and tickets are $100 and are available for purchase online here.
Due to the seminar the Monday, August 8, 5.30PM MMA Fundamentals class with Lukaz has been moved to 8PM on Tuesday, August 9 and the 6.30PM Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals class with Thiago has been cancelled.
Classes on Mat 2 and Mat 3 in the CBD are not affected by the seminar. If you aren’t going to be attending the seminar we invite you to attend any of the other classes in the CBD and you are also welcome to attend the MMA and BJJ classes in South Yarra.
It was a busy weekend for the Absolute Fight Team and our fighters brought home some great results!
First up we had Erhan ‘The Victorious’ Gungor and Albert ‘Timorese Assassin’ Xavier fighting Muay Thai at Powerplay 30. Massive fights for both guys against very tough, experienced opponents but Erhan and Albert put on the performances we know they are capable of, winning unanimous decisions in both fights!
Unfortunately Jaskirat Singh’s opponent pulled out due to a fever but Antonia Konstantopoulou did the boxing team proud, dropping her opponent twice in the opening round en route to a second round TKO!
We were also proud to host the first MA1 Challenge in the CBD with some of Australia’s best grapplers fighting for $1000. An awesome day and great to see so many people get behind a new competition! Some great photos of the action over at Shebeast BJJ.

Sunday afternoon Absolute MMA Melbourne CBD will host the first MA1 Challenge! This is a new format for Australia, with 8 competitors paying $100 to enter with the winner taking home $1000! EBI rules so it’s sure to be action packed.
Sunday afternoon we also have Jaskirat Singh and Antonia Konstantopoulou return to the amateur boxing ring! Again, we are looking forward to seeing the results of all of their hard work.
