FIGHT/COMPETITION RESULTS (20/03/2019 – 25/03/2019)

Our Absolute MMA Thailand team got the team started this week on Wednesday with Yousef Gorgis taking away another win at Bangla Boxing Stadium! Yousef had his opponent on shaky legs in the second round, continuing to apply a high output of pressure to finish his opponent with a huge left hand. Yousef has now won 2 fights in the past month by K.O, and is in fantastic form. We look forward to seeing your next fight!

The boys from Phuket continued their run of great results on Friday night when Florian Advic and Benjamin Roberts took to the ring at Bangla Stadium. Florian had some great success in his bout with the low kick, securing 2 knockdowns in the second round, before getting the TKO stoppage in the 4th round! Congratulations also to Ben Roberts, who used his reach very well to set up his bigger shots early on in the fight. Late in the second round, the referee had seen enough damage and stepped in to put a stop to the action. Fantastic result for Ben, as this fight resulted in him becoming a Bangla Stadium champion! Two very impressive KOs from the boys, and we couldn’t be prouder.

We’re also excited to announce that our fighter Javad Turk is matched against the famous Saenchai on Thai Fight on March 30th! It is looking to be a big night for the team with Absolute MMA Thailand fighter Alexander Welin also matched against Samingdej Dejfaifa on the same card. Best of luck guys!

Back home in Australia, Friday was also shaping up to be a big night for the Muay Thai team, with “Smokin” Joe Coverdale also set to go to war on Eruption Muay Thai in Queensland. Coach Laos Toohey and Joe flew up to the sunny state on Thursday, aiming to put on a show for the crowd at Eagle Sports Complex in Mansfield. Even to us viewing the live stream back home, it was clear that the venue was packed out, and the crowd keen to see some action!

Up against an undefeated opponent in Albert Tuua, Joe moved forward consistently, displaying great control of the ring. Joe looked to establish the clinch in his game, struggling in the early rounds to keep a consistent hold on an evasive opponent in Tuua. In the last round, Joe did engage the clinch more frequently, however, didn’t manage to catch up on points. Despite a loss via UPD, nothing but respect for Joe on a great performance against a strong opponent. We look forward to what the rest of the year brings for Joe!

Saturday rolled around, and our Amateur MMA team went to work on the Wimp 2 Warrior card with both Danielle Steven and Luke Giannoukas matched, and stepping up under the guidance of Coach Simon Carson. Luke did well, debuting in his first MMA fight! Luke has been training consistently for the last 6 months and deserves the opportunity to have his first fight. He shot for a takedown early, got held down in position but held his nerve and stayed composed. The second round went a very similar way, with Luke shooting for an early takedown, getting sprawled on and held down but remaining patient, waiting for his opportunity to come up on top. Luke then successfully moved forward to mount to get a ground and pound victory! Congratulations Luke on a well fought bout and well deserved victory!

Danielle had a really high-quality fight against a strong opponent with significant karate experience. In what would be a fight fought completely in stand up, in the first round Danielle lost on two judges cards, so looked to be at a disadvantage in a split first round. Picking things back up in the second round, Danielle finished extremely strongly, almost finishing her opponent here. Great to see Danielle coming out with the win, thank you to coaches Simon Carson and Glen Fraser, and fight team members Lisa Kyriacou and Jake Savic for their support on the day!

Saturday night saw the much-anticipated rematch between Coach Joe Boobyer and opponent Chris Bradford come around on Powerplay 40 for the IWKBF World Muaythai Heavyweight Title, held at Melbourne Pavilion. Joe fought a five-round war, giving up significant size, and was often on the backfoot, but countered whenever Chris came forward. Strong performance from Joe, who we felt got the better of all the striking exchanges, however often did move backward while doing so. With more significant shots landed by Joe, we felt he out-pointed his opponent, unfortunately, the judges didn’t see it that way and rewarded Chris for his aggression in walking forward, with the fight ending in a decision loss for Joe.

It was a big weekend for our Absolute MMA Shanghai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team with the SJJCF no gi Shanghai Jiu-jitsu Open taking place for 2019! Great efforts from our Absolute MMA Shanghai team who took 1st place as a team overall for No-Gi and 2nd overall for Gi. With this location just recently celebrating their 1 year anniversary of opening, we couldn’t be prouder of this result! Great work team!
