FIGHT/COMPETITION RESULTS (12/04/2019 – 14/04/2019)

Our striking team went to work locally last weekend with our Boxing team representing at the ISCW Cup at the Italian Sports Club in Werribee, and Hector Vigor from the Muay Thai team on Warriors Way 23 at the Doncaster Shoppingtown Hotel.

Up against opponent Richard Fatileh (Hammers) in a 3×2 round matchup at 64kg under full Thai rules, Hector Vigor had put in a hard training camp and it was all coming together in the fight, with Hector throwing strong counters and winning the clinch exchanges. Hector was consistent with his kicks throughout the opening rounds, his opponent looking for the finish from the get go with several heavy, close exchanges. Majority of exchanges ended with Hector locking up a strong clinch that Richard struggled to deal with, a dominant performance from Hector until he got caught with a huge overhand right as he was throwing a left kick, resulting in a loss for Hector via KO in the second round. Regardless of the result, it was great to see Hector getting back in there after a couple of years off due to injury, and we can’t wait to see him back in there next time!

Sunday saw a hard day in the office for our Boxing team, with three fighters who were matched to fight having their bouts cancelled (Aneira, Avinash and Pin), however we are happy to announce they all have been matched to fight on May 5th, 2019 upcoming! This left two of our boxing team competing on the day in Werribee. Benjamin Elford fought really well in his match, and showed great technique in a bout that could have gone either way to sustain a loss via split points decision. Michael also lost his bout via UPD, but we are proud of the team for showing up and continuing to test themselves in the ring. Thank you to everyone who came down to support on the day!

Our Absolute MMA Shanghai team also put in the hard yards last weekend, with both of their Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teams competing. At the Oz Body Fit Fight Night, we had ALL THREE of our fighters win their Muay Thai bouts. Congratulations to Astrid De Leeuw, “Leo” Wang Le, and Viacheslav “Mike” Perlomov on their victories! Coach Jowad has run these athletes through hell and back, and it is great to see them reaping the rewards of all their hard training. Great work team!

At the IBJJF Washington DC Open, Jason Vauters secured the bronze, and at the IBJJF San Jose Open, Coach Dorothy Dao took away three medals with a gold in the no-gi, and two silvers, one in the no-gi absolute division and one in the gi division. Dorothy also received her brown belt this weekend, so huge congratulations to her! Amazing work from our Shanghai grapplers in America, great to see our students flying out to compete across the world!
